Sorting folders by "Size Auto" column does (not) work

#1 Post by joby_toss » 20.02.2012, 04:32

In FC2009, sorting folders by their sizes works OK after calculating the space occupied by folders.

In FCXE (579 on win7x64sp1, Details view, Name and Extension columns are separate), it only works for files, but not for folders, after Alt+F9 is used:

This works for me: Under File/Folder List > Sorting, enable either "Folders like files" or "Folders like files except for name."
Folders then sort along with files according to Size Auto. (FC XE 579, Win 7/64)

Thank you for the answer!

I still can't get FC2009's behavior in FCXE. Folders are treated as files and get mixed together. I'd like to sort folders first, then files. What am I doing wrong?

I agree, it does not seem possible to sort folders by Size Auto in one group, followed by files sorted in a group.

I think the FC2009 behavior was more useful. It would be nice to have it added as an option.

Seems to be a problem under Win7 and/or 64 - here (XP32) it works as described also for the folder size....

Works fine for me under Win7/64.

@joby_toss
Send me please your freecommander.ini, if you can reproduce the problem.

It doesn't work for me in XE like in 2009, no matter what settings I use...

I have sent you a PM.

In your ini is "Folders like files - except for name" active. It works fine for AutoSize column.

Ah, I see now. This is not only possible, but it is in fact the default behavior.

Folders did not sort by Size or Modified because I had enabled "Sort folders always by name." No surprise -- that does just what it says!

To get the default behavior, uncheck that box as well as the boxes "Folders like files," "Folders like files - except for name," and "Sort by extension - folders too."

You are right, it works fine! I played with those settings so much...I don't know... I'm done wasting your time, I promise! :(

That was no waste of time for me! I didn't understand the different folder sorting features until we went through this, so I learned something too! This is a community effort anyway. And there are so many nice features in FC that I want to learn about and put to use.
