Multi Rename Not Working

#1 Post by docharv » 28.12.2008, 03:25

Recently installed 2008.06c version. Multirename stopped working. I used to be able to select multiple files or just be in the root of the folder and the F2 or CtrlM key would bring up the multi rename screen. Now when I use either key the files remain selected however the cursor/mouse freezes. Only way I can release is to type the Alt+F4 key sequence.

I have read all of the forum posts and cannot find a solution. Do not think I have made any other changes to settings.

Any suggestions? Can I restore to the previous verision?

It's working good in this version. Try to close FreeCommander, backup the FreeCommander.ini file, delete this file and start FreeCommander. Also make sure there are not too many file in the current folder (thousands).

Tried that. Still have problem. Even tried to look at ini file on another computer where I do not seem to have problem. Did not see any real difference.

Should I possibly uninstall and reinstall program?

You needn't uninstall FC because all settings are stored in separate files in install- or user-directory. You can use the zip-file of FreeCommander without setup in the downloadsection (http://www.freecommander.com/FreeCommander200806c.zip) to unpack a fresh FreeCommander.

Does your first post mean that the rename-window doesn't appear by shortcuts or also by use the menu (file >>> multi rename)?

If the problem are only the keyboard shortcuts try this:

Personal keyboard shortcuts are stored in the "FreeCommander.shc"-file in install-folder.
If this file exists you can also make a copy of it and delete it in the install-folder (FC has to be closed). Start FC and try multi-rename.

Otherwise I remember some problems with dialogfields which appear behind the main FC-window. Then try to push the main window away and look if the multi-rename-window is behind this.

I had already used the zip file, because I keep it stored on an external drive. Did not work.

Went ahead and unistalled and reinstalled. Problem is gone.

The dialog field was not the problem. Nothing behind. Only thing that would work is to use the Alt F4 key that would unselect the files.

The multi rename window would not appear with either the menu or shortcut key.
