I normally start FC in full screen mode maximized.
When I click on the restore button, the GUI reduces to a very small layout. I can use the mouse to drag the GUI to a suitable size, thereafter, subsequent clicks on the restore/maximize button work as expected.
If I close FC (full screen mode maximized) the the issue reoccurs with the next start of FC.

If after adjusting the size of the GUI and I close FC in restore mode, the GUI size is remembered upon the next start of FC, but if I go to full screen mode maximized and close FC, the setting is lost again.

FreeCommander XE 2019 Build 824 64-bit donor
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Version 1909 Build 18363.959

Strange, for me it's different, with default settings, but I'll start a new topic for this issue.

OK, another test is probably similar to "very small layout":
- maximize FC
- alt+f4 to exit
- start FC again
- FC started maximized
- restore FC, click the maximize button
= FC window is very small

Confirmed, but it's not the fullscreen mode, but maximized.

FC 824 64-bit donor, Windows 10 64-bit 2004.

I followed your example above,

the results are as I posted in the OP.

I have a different issue then you do.

I tried your example with default settings

When FC started it was in restored layout
I maximized FC
alt+f4
started FC (default settings)
FC started maximized
clicked on restore, FC layout very small (as in OP with normal configuration)
clicked maximize
exited FC

obviously my issue has nothing to to with my configuration, issue occurs with default settings

I have a different issue then you do.

For me it looks the same. Exit FC maximized, start FC, it started maximized, click restore - size is lost, changed to small window.
