I think, your font is to big.
You can change the font size for dialogs: https://freecommander.com/fchelpxe/en/SettingsView.html

After my post, I mucked with the Settings | View options.
Turned ON the "Use Windows drawn menus"
Menu font size is now "Segoi UI, 10" 10
Dialogs font >
Turned ON "Use defined font"

Amazing - all the problems I saw before - are now all gone...
