Word Template dotx will open in Edit mode

Hi there
For the past couple of versions, if you double-click a dotx file, it will come up as open/editing of the template rather than create a New Document using the template.
If I right-click the same file and select New (the default Windows option in bold) it will come up as a new document even in FC.
In comparision I can double-click in File Explorer and it will come up as expected as create a new document.
All in all the default Windows option is not working from within FC.
Please let me know if I need to provide more information
