Filenames clipped when dropping them from Thunderbird to a folder inside FreeCommander
Filenames clipped when dropping them from Thunderbird to a folder inside FreeCommander
Hi,
I don't know if this is an issue of Thunderbird or FreeCommander. I will explain anyway.
I have a mail with attachments in Thunderbird. The attachment filenames are rather long. When I drag and drop them from TB to FreeCommander where I need them saved, the filenames are "clipped". Some characters in the last part of the names are lost and a ... appears in their place. The extension is there.
For example, if I drop the attachment with name "2026-07-20_This_is_a_rather_long_filename_that_may_produce_issues_with_FreeCommander_ΣΧ.pdf" to FreeCommander, I get the file "2026-07-20_This_is_a_rather_long_filename_that_may_produce_issues_with_Fre...der_ΣΧ.pdf". For some reason, I cannot show images.
If I manually save the attachments from TB in the destination folder, no name clipping occurs.
Has anyone else seen this?

Check the column profile for your detail view https://freecommander.com/fchelpxe/en/C ... files.html
Is the "Max. Width" for the Name column set to 0? If no, try with 0.

The name was set to 69 characters. I set it to 0, but still same behaviour.
Re: Filenames clipped when dropping them from Thunderbird to a folder inside FreeCommander
Could you send me your freecommander.ini file?
Re: Filenames clipped when dropping them from Thunderbird to a folder inside FreeCommander
My file name was to short.
I see it now, the file name must be very long.
It seems for me, it is not the FreeCommander problem.
I dropped the file to Windows Explorer and the result was the same - clipped file name.

So, this is a Windows issue?
Re: Filenames clipped when dropping them from Thunderbird to a folder inside FreeCommander
Yes, this is a intentional TB behaviour. FreeCommander has no issue.
I apologize for the noise.
