'New' object dialog box doesn't have focus

If I try to create a new item (e.g. a folder), either by right-click > New > Folder, or by using an action toolbar button for New Item, I get a dialog box to enter the name of the new item.
However, the focus is not in the field of that dialog box. I'm not sure where it is (if anywhere). I've right-clicked > New and immediately started typing a folder name on several occasions only to find that nothing is created: my typing was having no effect. If I remember to mouse-click in the dialog box, then I can create my new item.
Windows File Explorer behaves as right-click > New > Folder, and immediately shows a new folder with appropriate icon and the focussed name "New folder".
This behaviour would suit my workflows better.
Is there a setting in FreeCommander that I have implemented by mistake that produces the effect I see? What would be its purpose and benefit?
Thanks
Walter
