Problem with *Forum* Search function

#1 Post by granny » 12.02.2010, 07:40

There seems to be something broken in the search engine. Many (maybe most?) searches give either incomplete or NO results.

For example, I was looking for the following thread, which I had remembered reading (and finally found a copy I had saved to my hard-drive)

viewtopic.php?p=5109#5109

using search terms of blinking and/or Vista and/or manifest did NOT give a hit for this thread.

+ blinking + Vista got this
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=244&hilit=+blinking ... dd64abaa80

manifest only got
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=221&hilit=manifest& ... dd64abaa80
and
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=665&p=1680&hilit=ma ... aa80#p1680

just for a test, try doing a search for "guide" and see what you get. I know that I posted at least three threads with the word Guide in the title, and none of them come up on Search.

So, if we keep seeing the same questions repeated again and again, maybe part of the reason is that the poster can't find their answer by using Search.

Is this a fixable problem? A bug in phpBB software?

Thanks for your time.

my Search for "guide" there were 11 hits:
  • Die Suche ergab 11 Treffer
    Benutzte Suchanfrage: guide
my Search for "blinking vista manifest" gave 1 hit:
http://forum.freecommander.com/viewtopi ... a+manifest
  • Die Suche ergab 1 Treffer
Benutzte Suchanfrage: blinking vista manifest ignoriert: vista
"vista" was ignored because of too many entries.

I have included additionally the google search for the forum. You can find the search field on the main site http://www.forum.freecommander.com (below the "Board index" line). I hope it helps.

Marek, thank you, Google search is great.

Maybe this computer is possessed by demons, today I tried the Forum Search with the same terms I was complaining about, and got lots of hits. So I don't know what was going wrong.

But having Google is a really great feature, so thank you again.
