it does not work properly to unpack zip files with XE with 7 zip packed files archives (zipped files in *.zip format with 7 zip).

maybe it could make sense to implement 7 zip as default or as an alternative zipper.

You can use an archiver plug-in (Settings - Archiver plugins).

When I packed the files for the 1 GB size zip I used the default settings in 7 zip. But unzip did not work in XE.

total7zip never heard of that. hmm is this the plug in 7 zip for totalcommander ?

Well, originally it's a plugin for TotalCommander, but you can use it in FreeCommander as well.

it does work. (1) You have to select the Total7Zip.wcx file and set it active, then
(2) extensions "zip.jar.war" must be written in the Extensions column (otherwise it won't work).

I forgot to write/supplement "zip.jar.war", that's the reason why it did not work first and a error message box appeared when unzip a file. I am glad to work with 7 zip because my files are packed with 7 zip normally.

XE seems to crash often when using the plug-in (it crashes all the time).

Open the file total7zip.template.xml and change the value for alwaysWait7zip from "0" to "1":
alwaysWait7zip="1"

Maybe it could make sense to implement both zip packers as default and you could choose between pkzip or 7 zip. or write a HOW TO somewhere. But probably there are copyright issues if 7 zip is implemented as default, I don't know. I had no idea what to change in which file.


Without changing and save the change in the .xml file, XE constantly crashes.

I agree, such a "minor" issues are very important.
