If in both panels we have the same folder, then if we start "linked browsing" - everything works fine.
If we have different folders in one drive (for example, "C:\Documents and settings" and "C:\Program Files") in active and inactive panels, then if we start "linked browsing", until we get into the same folder in both panels - "linked browsing" does not work.
Even more interesting is the situation when we open to different drives in panels (for example, "C:\123456" and "E:\123456"). If we start "linked browsing", in that case it works, despite the fact, that drives are different! We may simultaneously enter/exit such "identical" folders in different drives. When we go to other not "identical" folder, "linked browsing" stops working.

Maybe you could describe more exactly, when the function stops working.

As I understand, if we running this function, the same content must be shown in both panels.
It only works if we start "linked browsing" in identical folder. If not, it waits until we do it. If we start "linked browsing" when "C:\Documents and settings" in the left (active panel) and "C:\Program Files" in the right (inactive panel) - it does not work. But in fact, inactive panel should display the same content as in active panel.
Also "linked browsing" does not verify that in both panels you are using the same drive. "Linked browsing" works when we open "C:\123456" in one panel and "E:\123456" in another (but it should not be - drives are different!).

Maybe you expect some other from the function as it is.
Assume the "linked browsing" is active.
If I have in the left panel item "test" and I select/focus the item, then in the right panel the item "test" is focused too (if exists).
If the "test" item is the folder and I open the folder in the left panel then in the right panel the "test" folder will be opened too.

It is a mistake to show objects just with the same name and do not check any other conditions. Linked view must show the same content, not just identical by name ignoring all the rest.
