Highlight Active Items in files list in Windows 10

I bought a laptop with Windows 10 pro. I copied a portable version of FreeCommander to the laptop and everything seems to work fine so far with one exception. I can't seem to find a combination of colors that will show a highlight bar over whatever items I select in the files pane.
It works fine in the folder pane. I use a black background with a dark green font - like the early monochrome monitors. . In the folder pane the selected item shows a white highlight bar around the selection but in the files pane it shows a very hard to see, almost invisible shadow. If I select more than one item in the files pane I can't differentiate what I've selected from the rest of the items on the list.
On my other two computers running Windows 7 pro the highlight bar shows up as an easy to see light gray in the files pane.
Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Bill
