In Total Commander theres an option to set the Quick-Search so it finds files\dirs even if their names don't start with the search string.
e.g.:
When I type "d" it finds also "abc d efg" and whatever file\dir with 'd' in it's name
If I go on and type "dd" (now I have "ddd" together with the first ...
