596 - Can't move or copy zip archives or folders
596 - Can't move or copy zip archives or folders
Whew! I am having issues! I can't drag-n-drop archives or folders from one folder to another as long as the destination is an FC folder pane. I can take the same two directories open in Q-Dir, and copy or move via drag-n-drop the same archives, but if I try to do it in FC, FC says "Could not find this item This is no longer located in C:\(path). Verify the item's location and try again." Then it tells me the filename, its size, type and date modified! I get the option to "Try Again" or "Cancel". The title is "Item Not Found".
Now, I can drag archives and folders from FC into Q-Dir not problem, but not vice versa. It seems like FC loses the origination path.
However, if the item is a zip archive, and I open the zip in one panel, I can copy into the other panel without problem. Strange! I can copy the contents of a zip archive, but not the archive.
The drag-n-drop problem happens also if I try to move an archive or a folder to a folder *in the same pane*, and neither can I cut and paste with the keyboard. I can copy and move other files, just not zip archives.

Hmmm - actually, the problem does not happen when I use the copy/move buttons in the splitter bar...

Have you checked the settings at: Tools > File/Folder operations > Drag&Drop > Activate drag&drop ...

Yes, both drag-n-drop options are checked. Drag-n-drop works with regular files - just not archives and folders.

Copy or move archives and folders (as normal files) by drag&drop are no problem on my system.

Re: 596 - Can't move or copy zip archives or folders
I tried it, too, without the Total7zip archiver plugin, and with just the fcZip internal zipper. Still no go.

I can drag-and-drop a zip file without a problem.

I don't remember having the problem in 595, either. This is with 596.

Solved: 596 - Can't move or copy zip archives or folders
Doh! I figured it out! I had used a registry hack to disable libraries in Win7 because I don't like them. I just saw that I had the issue in XnView, too, so I googled it and found out that that hack can cause that problem.
So I restored the registry entry for the libraries and it all works now in FC.

Re: 596 - Can't move or copy zip archives or folders
Good job in solving that, BGM.
Like you, I upgraded from Win XP to Win 7 relatively recently, and I likewise have no use for the Libraries; I want to know exactly where my files are located and manage them directly without Windows combining them into a virtual location for me. But I've left the Libraries alone; they're pretty easy to ignore. The only bothersome thing for me is they appear first in certain file navigation dialogs, so I have to scroll down to find drives under My Computer.

Re: 596 - Can't move or copy zip archives or folders
Scott - your reason for not liking them is the exact reason why I wanted to disable them in the first place! They take up room in the file dialogs. I, too, want to know exactly where everything is. I have ignored the "My Documents" folder for years!
