628 - Multi Rename is slow

#1 Post by Dreamer » 18.06.2013, 02:31

I think I have reported it already, but I couldn't find it.

To reproduce:

- use jpg file with EXIF date taken info
- select few jpg files
- press F2 to open multi rename window
- in the name field write e.g. aaa [exif_taken]
- wait until the preview file list is updated
- now edit the name filed quickly, add "bbb", like this: aaa bbb [exif_taken]
- you have to type "bbb" and press Enter immediately
= result files have the names like this: "aaa 2012-08-14 14-12-53"

It looks as a minor issue, but it's really annoying, when I rename hundreds of images and I change the name quickly, sometime a part of the name is missing and I have to rename all the file again. Even worse is when I think it's OK and then I have hundreds of files with the wrong name, so it's quite ugly bug.

I don't know it the process can be faster, if not, at least disallow renaming while preview file list is updating, hope it's possible somehow.

I'll create video if needed.

I have tested it with 1000 jpg files but it was not to reproduce for me.
Anyway I have made few changes (for release 629) for disallow renaming while preview file list is updating.

The number of file is not important.

To reproduce just rename few files, type any text in the middle and press Enter immediately, I tried to wait about half second and I can reproduce it.

Yes, multi-rename is a lot slower in XE than in 2009.

Thanks, joby_toss, can you also reproduce this bug?

Just use JPG image with EXIF date and type this name in the File name field:

aaa [exif_taken]

Then quickly add "bbb" in the middle and press Enter immedietely:

aaa bbb [exif_taken]

Preview is not updated, but rename operation is started and the result doesn't have "bbb".

Marek, thanks, I hope it will fix the bug, but not the speed, probably we'll need to press Enter twice, since the first time it won't be working.

Yes, I can confirm what you're describing!

In fact I can write anything in the name field and nothing happens if I quickly hit enter. It's not only related to more complex renaming like using the exif info. And it's not related to the number of files; 2 or more, same thing.
It's always been like this with XE for me, just didn't know how to describe this exactly.

Fixed in 629.

However, as I said, I have to press Enter twice, since the first one is not working. I'm not sure if it's a bug, but is it possible to process the operation with the first click, just a bit later, somehow?

Great! I'm looking forward to 630.

(I'm ready for testing un-released version if you'd like.)
