Quick filter - auto focus item

#1 Post by Dreamer » 21.03.2014, 19:27

When using quick filter, I have to type a text, press down arrow, then again several times until I find the file I need, End key doesn't work if quick filter field is active (bug/issue?).

When using quick search, just type few first letters from the searched file, the file is focused immediately - this is very useful and I'd like the same for quick filter - automatically focus the first match item.

This is useful when using viewer or quick filter to check the file, parameters...

I don't understand, is it an advice? I know it is possible to enable quick filter, press down arrow - at least twice, then End key and the file list is active...

...but if you need to filter many files, all this is annoying - and quick search works exactly how I need, so I'd like to have the same for quick filter.

Or do you mean "down arrow" button?? Then I know about it too, but it's just a history, I need to type new words.

For me it works like this (FC XE 654 x64, empty quick filter box):
- I press Ctrl+Y -> quick filter box gains focus
- I type my filter (let's say ".zip") -> the file/folder list is filtered automatically
- I press the Down arrow key (only once) on my keyboard -> the file/folder list gains focus
- I press a key (let's say "X") -> the first corresponding file (starting with "X") becomes active
- Optional: after all of the above, I hit Ctrl+T twice and repeat the process (if I need to go on with another filter)

My settings:

So I was suggesting to activate the quick filter, then hit the down arrow key, then use the quick search like you normally do.

Yes, would be nice to have the file/folder list automatically gaining focus after we activate the quick filter so we don't have to hit the down arrow key, but it's not that much trouble the way it is now.

Sometimes I have to press down key just once, probably if the file was focused already before, but usually it's 2 times.

If I need to filter many files (50+), current way is too annoying, because I have to type a word in quick filter field, then press down key, then there are still several files listed, so I have to press down key several times, even 5 or 10 times, if I want to focus the last file, I'd have to press just End key, but currently I need to press down and end keys.

Ideally I'd like to triple click the quick filter field, type new word, change window, edit what I need, then triple click again...

And if also quick filter would work immediately - when I start typing, instead of quick search, then it would be perfect, like this:

- go to FC
- start typing to quick filter the list
- (auto-focus item, display file parameters in status bar/quick view)
- alt+tab to go to different program
- process the file in different program
- alt+tab to go to FC
- start typing to quick filter the list
...

No additional click, no hand movement, no second wasted. Perhaps you don't understand why I need to save few clicks, seconds, but try to process 50 files like this and you'll understand.
