Progress / Action indicator for the SIZE OF FOLDERS command

#1 Post by Bearded Kirklander » 06.09.2008, 00:56

I've noticed that when I go into the FOLDER menu and select SIZE OF FOLDERS (Alt-F9), it can take quite a while, depending on a number of factors.

I was wondering if it would be possible to provide some sort of updated Progress / Action indicator so that we can be sure the application has not stalled, but is simply chugging away at the task.

It could be something very simple, such as a rotating slash (/) or repeated progressive dots ( . then .. then ... then . then .. then ... then . )

I'm not sure if it would be good to put it in the application title bar, where the path is shown above the column headers, etc. but perhaps someone can think of a good place for it.

The delay is particularly long on external drives plugged into the system via USB 2.0 or FireWire (mainly USB 2.0 I guess) and a simple little something that says:

Calculating Folder Sizes

followed by some animated indicator and that should about do it. When it's all done, you could just remove the text and indicator and life will move on nicely.

Please consider the merits of this request.

Thank you.
