Shorten Long File Names With Ellipsis feature could use more options

The feature of

Tools > Settings > View > File/folder list > General > Shorten long file names with ellipsis in the middle (List and Details views)

allows users to choose either

as the marker for replaced string of characters, which otherwise would make a too-long name of an item outflow available horizontal space in a Panel

Unfortunately although >>?<< and >>*<< are illegal characters, and as such in theory they should stand out, in a wall of characters they are easy to be missed; thus it is only the the >>...<< which really stands out visually, because it uses consecutively 3 same signs instead of just 1. But then again, a user might have files that really have multiple adjacent dot signs in their names


Therefore at minimum I propose expansion of this list to

But what I really wish for, is to be able to also define freely how many and what characters are to be used as such "ellipsis". Because then I might use something like for example

I think, that users should be able to choose whether the placement of it should be in the middle or at the end of a too-long name i.e. the

Tools > Settings > View > File/folder list > General > Shorten long file names with ellipsis in the middle (List and Details views)

should be replaced with

Tools > Settings > View > File/folder list > General > Shorten long file names with ellipsis (in List and Details views)

and then be supplemented by mutually exclusive 2 options of

Tools > Settings > View > File/folder list > General > Shorten long file names with ellipsis (in List and Details views) > in the middle

and

Tools > Settings > View > File/folder list > General > Shorten long file names with ellipsis (in List and Details views) > at the end
