Connect to CENTOS 5.4 Linux via FTP

I have been searching the boards for a few days now and cannot find much discussion re FTP.

I am running a test web server under CENTOS 5.4 linux. I am able to connect to it via FTP using WINSCP from a winxp sp3 box no problem. What I want to do is use freecommander to handle that connection.

Using FC 2009a, I can create a connection but the best I get is a message saying:

-2146893048 The token supplied to the function is invalid.

This message is returned immediately after the connect option is taken.

Some additional information I can provide from WINSCP is:
Session protocol: SSH-2
SSH implementation: OpenSSH_4.3
Encryption algorithm: aes
Compression: No
File transfer protocol: SFTP-3

SSH is not possible with FreeCommander.
